Popping sound and cut out when too much going on
« on: January 03, 2017, 01:58:15 PM »
So I just started playing and the only issue I'm having is with sound. When I start up the game everything's fine until I get to the main menu and then a constant popping noise can be heard, when I tried getting into combat or just spectating, it cut out all sound and only the popping sound was there but louder. I've looked around for about an hour now trying stuff but I can't seem to find anything that actually helps this problem.
I've updated sound stuff, tried a few other things I may have gotten wrong, and messed with stuff but reset them when nothing happened.

Thanks for any help I can get with this.

This is potentially the amount of sound channels that crysis has allocated. It's a problem I used to get back in the day, the solution is to modify your autoexec.cfg file, but I can't off hand remember the line you need to have.

Check out some of the more recent threads on autoexecs, as I'm pretty sure that our local Italian poundcake farmer has it included in his otherwise excellent autoconfigs.

Try the following settings in your autoexec.cfg

Code: [Select]
s_MaxChannels = 128
s_PrecacheData = 1
s_ReverbType = 1
s_cacheSize = 80
s_SpeakerConfig = 0
s_FormatSampleRate = 48000
s_FormatType = 3

If that does not help, try setting s_FormatSampleRate to 44100 and also set the output format of your primary sound device in Windows to 44100.

Also check the troubleshooting guide, I've added a point about sound problems.

don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

Thanks a lot, managed to get it to stop and everything's working properly. Time to enjoy the game fully now!
