Frustratingly slow patcher speed
« on: November 05, 2012, 11:20:47 PM »
I've tried to manually install MWLL as mentioned in the installation guide, using OpenBeta-Full-0.6.0.zip followed by OpenBeta-Full-0.6.1.zip  but it gives me the error "modified files, please revert" on startup.  (ignoring the fact that there is no   Trying to use the auto-updater or the repair tool, results in speeds of roughly 4 kbps.  This equates to over a week of time spent updating and/or repairing.

Is there really no way around this slow update/repair speed?

Hm, I would guess that the currently slow speed is still an after effect of the big recent server outage. The Auto Updater / Downloader uses bittorrent and the MWLL team seeded those files themselves somewhere, probably from the very server that went down and is still not completely restored. Thus you might only get slow uploads from a few users (or MWLL devs) from their private connections.

But may be we can solve the modified files error some other way. So, have you tried deleting the MWLL folder completely again (in the Mods folder of Crysis Wars) and also deleting the Crysis Wars folder in your Documents\My Games directory? Which Anti-Virus Software are you using (if any)?

Ahh the vcredist_x64_2005_SP1_ATL.exe is missing from my bin64 folder.  IT wasn't included in the patch zip (However the mechwarrior mod does load so i'm not sure if this is the problem).

EDIT:  Deleting the mwll folder completely (and the documents my games folder) and re-installing does not affect things.

I am using AVG free 2013

Well, the vcredists (not just that one, there is another one too) need to be installed, but I am not sure if that would have any affect on the file veryfication check.

The VC++ should have been installed initially the first time the MWLL installer is run.

Both the VC++ and the .NET (3.5 SP1 or 4.0) are needed to run MWLL successfully. At times either software may initially fail to install and you need to make sure they are both isntalled correctly.

.NET Framwork: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa496123
.Net 3.5 SP1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22
.NET 4.0: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64): http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21254
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 ATL Security Update: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26347

Also be sure that Crysis Wars have been patched to version 1.5, else you may suffer from a blackscreen issue.
http://www.crytekfiles.com/files/CrysisWarsPatches/CrysisWars_patch5.exe

And for the AVG Free, please make an exception for MWLL in your AVG if possible or turn it off during install, it has caused issues in the past, iirc.

For the "Modified Files" issue, please attach your Game.log here, it is located in the root of your Crysis Wars installation, e.g. Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis Wars\Game.log.

I think there were quite a few files missing in the "offline" files I downloaded from http://filip.adjic.net/mwll.html   i.e. the vc++ and the .net files, as well as other folders contained within mwll/game as the contents are \Localised plus 8 .pak files.  Anyway here's the Game.log:

Note that the exception was added for the entire mwll folder for my anti-virus and that the patcher crashes trying to load the installation wizard, despite re-downloading and running as administrator etc.

When you open the MWLL-OpenBeta-Full-0.6.0.zip, the files causing the errors in the latter part of the .log are missing? The files may have been missed if the installer crashed during install which either is the installer thats broken or other parts. When did you last make a defrag or chkdsk?

Please make a hashcheck on the downloaded files for the consistency.

MWLL-OpenBeta-Full-0.6.0.zip

MWLL-OpenBeta-Patch-0.6.1.zip
MD5: 0f8b46a2779a84179773f47450e69150

Deleting the files causing the error and repairing the build via the launcher is the normal procedure with modified files, though I'm unsure if that path is fixed atm that you said you had a slow speed when using the launchers repair function.

Optionally you can locate the files in the MWLL-OpenBeta-Full-0.6.0.zip and extract the two folders individually over the existing ones:
Game/Config/
Game/Languages/

Yes. The files are not contained in either .zip. defrag is done every day and pc is two months old so it's unlikely to be a disk error.

fd35d512a9aa74761b59b26cdd84cf7d and 0f8b46a2779a84179773f47450e69150 respectively.

There is no Game/Config contained within either .zip
There is no Game/Languages contained within either .zip

I've realised because of this that the 6.0 zip file did not extract fully/correctly, and will start again from the beginning armed with this knowledge.

Edit:

Working apparently flawlessly now, I'm joining my first game.  Thankyou both for your patience.

Well done people, helping someone getting their game running is a credit to all concerned
You have to understand the code of duty and honor that rules those who pilot these engines of destruction. Placing such an awesome weapon in the hands of an individual implies a similar gesture of trust

I'm seeding 0.6.0 via BitTorrent on my server, and have been since the day 0.6.0 came out. I don't have 0.6.1 in BT, though. Does anyone have a .torrent of 0.6.1 handy so I can add that as well?

This is great but is there any word of the goings on in smoke filled rooms regarding reestablishment of the official download site? It's been La brokey for a good long time now. I'd hate to think we are flat out losing people who would otherwise be playing because things are back to 0.1 paleoarchae-installation practices. Not everyone knows how to flint-knap anymore these days.

If you can't build your own mech from spare parts around your house you don't deserve to pilot one.  Or something like that.

but seriously, yeah.  Broken easy download is a great way to make people think the mod is dead.
