Community map naming & versioning
« on: September 02, 2011, 09:12:24 AM »
With no map versioning scheme in Wars/MWLL i guess the best way to handle map versioning when still in development is to include some versioning in the maps name (as previously suggested and already done by a few mappers).

E.g.: TC_MyMap-1, TSA_MyMapV1, SA_MyMap_01, ...

 * helps server admins to easily see wether their maps are out of date
 * avoids player confusion about why there are map version mismatches, etc.
 * avoids repeatedly reinstalling maps in case some servers happen to run different versions
 * doesn't break autodownloader setups of servers when a mapper puts a new map version on (just leave the last version on as well and put a new, differently named one, up)

So, unless anyone has better ideas i'd love to see more community mappers do that.

To all mappers:

Please, if you update and upload your map, even if it has only been a minuscule change, DO change the version number! This prevents a lot of trouble for players and servers alike.
